Fuel products · DEF
DEF delivered on the same run as your diesel.
Diesel exhaust fluid is not optional on modern equipment, and running out does not just trigger a warning — it derates the engine. So we bring it with the diesel.

What it is
DEF, in plain terms.
Diesel exhaust fluid is a urea and water solution injected into the exhaust of diesel engines with selective catalytic reduction systems. It converts nitrogen oxide emissions into nitrogen and water vapour, which is how modern diesel equipment meets emissions rules.
It goes in its own tank, not in the fuel tank. It is consumed steadily alongside diesel, so a fleet that burns diesel predictably burns DEF predictably too.
The operational point is simple: equipment that runs out of DEF reduces power until it is refilled. Treating it as an afterthought is how a truck ends up parked for a fluid that costs a fraction of the diesel beside it.
Why take it from your fuel supplier
One less thing arriving separately.
It rides along
DEF is topped up on the diesel run. No separate delivery, no separate supplier, no separate invoice.
It gets scheduled, not remembered
Consumption is predictable, so it goes on the same standing schedule as the fuel rather than being reordered when someone notices.
It stops derates
The cheapest way to avoid an emissions derate is for the DEF to already be there.
Common questions
Before you call.
Does every diesel vehicle need DEF?
Not every one — it applies to diesel engines with selective catalytic reduction emissions systems, which covers most modern on-road equipment. If you are unsure what your fleet takes, tell us what you run.
What happens if a vehicle runs out?
The engine derates — it reduces power to force the issue — until DEF is added. It is not a warning you can run past.
Can we get DEF without buying fuel from you?
DEF is supplied as part of our fuel service, and the value of it is that it arrives on the same run. Talk to us about what your site needs.
How is it delivered?
Alongside your scheduled diesel delivery, into the equipment or into on-site storage, depending on how the site is set up.
Do you deliver DEF near me?
Summa runs out of Clifton, New Jersey, and delivers DEF across New Jersey and New York — Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Elizabeth, the five boroughs and Long Island included — alongside the rest of the Northeast. Tell us the site address and we will confirm it directly.
